Hi there! I'm Andreane, but you can call me Andie. I'm delighted you've dropped by to explore my little corner of the web, where I express my love for wildlife and nature photography!
My passion for photography dates back to my childhood, sparked by the vintage Rolleicord cameras I discovered around my home. As a teenager, I reveled in photographing vibrant flowers and stunning landscapes on film. A turning point came during my time at my uncle's electronics store in the 90s, where I found a Sony Mavica that saved images on floppy disks! This camera became my go-to companion for concerts and portraits, kindling a lifelong passion. While in college, I transitioned to an Olympus OM-1, and moving to New York City allowed me to refine my photography skills, mastering techniques like aperture, exposure, and darkroom printing of black-and-white images.
As my skills progressed, I moved on to an SLR camera, eventually acquiring Canon's first consumer DSLR in 2002—a true game changer at 6.3MP! ;-)
Even while devoting 24 years to a career in Law Enforcement (which I still actively pursue), photography has always been my creative escape. Over the years, I've taken on various projects, from weddings and newborn portraits to editorial sports and corporate photography. However, my heart truly lies in wildlife photography, which brings me immense joy and peace.
The moment I first spotted Bohemian Waxwings marked the beginning of my wildlife journey. I constantly seek new locations for photography opportunities. In December 2024, a friend called with an exhilarating invitation: "Dress warmly, grab your camera, and meet me at this spot." I had no idea what awaited me. Upon arrival, he gestured into the woods and said, "Look over there, she's waiting for you!" I was ecstatic to see a lovely female Snowy Owl resting on the ground. It was an unforgettable experience that filled me with gratitude. I kept my distance while snapping a few photos until she gracefully flew to a nearby telephone pole.
To this day, I believe that more owls have seen me than I have seen them in their natural habitat. These incredible creatures are true masters of disguise! Since that initial encounter, I've had the honor of photographing several Snowy Owls, Barred Owls, and even a Long-eared Owl. Each meeting with these remarkable birds feels like a sprinkle of magic.
Thank you for visiting! I can't wait to share some wildlife photography stories, lessons I've learned, and the amusing moments I've encountered along the way!
